About the Annual Silent Art Auction

The first project of James Island Arts, the Annual Silent Art Auction distributes the proceeds of an auction of local artists’ work to our Island art classrooms, and showcases student art and music. It is held on the last Saturday in February and features about 100 works in all genres, from painting to theatre, jazz collections on CD to cuisine. Every year the auction is more successful, as measured by proceeds, merchant support and grants, attendance, and artist participation.

Concurrent with the auction is the Annual James Island Arts Student Competition, which awards first, second and third prizes to students in elementary, middle, and high school divisions. Entries are chosen by Island art teachers from work completed by their students during the year, and these finalists’ work is displayed in Town Hall and in a special gallery space next door for the high schoolers provided by Island Bazaar.

The auction aims to showcase artists primarily from James, Johns, and Folly Islands, but some are friends of James Island Arts.
